General Facts about Cane Corso

The name Cane Corso may not be too familiar for you, but if you call it as the Italian mastiff, then it rings a bell. This native Italian dog is big and athletic, suitable as a watch dog. In Italy, it was often used for hunting.
You can say that the Cane Corso is basically majestic, noble, and powerful, with big bones and muscular stance. When it is taken care well, it can develop into a friendly dog for family with careful watch that can offer protection. However, if you have mistreated it since puppy, you can develop an aggressive kind of dog – the one that is often used in dog fights. Nobody says keeping a dog is easy, but with this breed, you really need to be careful and not underestimate things.
Cane Corso is the direct descendant of Canis Pugances, and the name was originally Cohor, meaning protector or guardian. It was considered as a rare breed and could only be seen in Italian paintings. However, since 1988 it has been known for the public. Before the year, this breed was only known in southern Italy. This dog has short coat, with thick and coarse texture – for protection against the cold and to serve as a natural waterproof barrier. The coat isn’t smooth at all, and it comes in various colors of black, red, gray, fawn, or the combination of black and gray.
This breed is intelligent and likes good exercise. In fact, they need loads of exercise. When treated and cared correctly, they can create affectionate bond and love toward family, children, and mostly the owner. Caring for it is quite easy. With regular brushing, they are good – after all, they are light shredder. Cane Corso has natural adventurous sense, and it is fast, agile, and athletic. Although it loves exercise, it loves companionship and personal interaction. When it is being alone or feeling lonely, t can be destructive and aggressive. That’s why it is advisable that you have other dogs when you are raising this breed.
Basically, all mastiffs require socialization and friends. As puppies, this type of dog is trusting and friendly, and such nature should be developed with the proper care. When they get the companionship and positive affection, they can grow into stable, calm, and protective adults. That’s why irresponsible way for caring them can result in aggressive and unstable dog, which is a danger to innocent people.
The dog can respect consistent and confident owner, despite its natural strong will and dominant nature. The response to training is good and it is naturally attentive. Basically, Cane Corso doesn’t drool much, and it loves playing with water. Some of them even love to dig. Dainty dog? Not very likely! Such dog is perfect for you if you want a powerful, athletic, and big dog, with quiet and calm trait. However, if you dislike having a pet that will certainly takes loads of space, or you dislike the thought that you need to care for it with extra attention, then this one isn’t the one for you.
